Isabelle Schluep has joined CCRS in November 2014 and is involved in a CTI funded project on the financialization of global agricultural markets. From 2008-2013 she was an economist in the economic policy division of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in Berne. Her work related to issues such as Swiss and international economic policy, international trade policy, customs, natural resources, or growth. She gained experience in negotiations with the EU and free trade (FTA) partner countries and also published several articles on topics like globalization, global value chains, distortions to agricultural trade, FTA Switzerland-Colombia, or perennial growth. Before joining SECO in 2008 she was a researcher and lecturer in development economics at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. After obtaining her diploma in agronomy from the ETH in 1996 Dr. Schluep moved to the United States where she earned a M.S. in agricultural economics from Cornell University in 1999 and a M.S. in economics from Iowa State University in 2002. She completed her doctoral thesis at ETH Zurich in 2004 on the subject of «Market Access Options in the WTO Doha Round: Impacts on the Swiss Meat Market». In a later study she analyzed the impact of a Swiss-EU free trade agreement on the meat market including impacts on third countries. She has a wide spectrum of interest ranging from agricultural economics to macroeconomics.
